Ed Gilfus began racing in ’78. His passion and understanding for the sport helped propel the Japanese Auto Tech IT cars to back to back SCCA southwest division championships in ’94 and ‘95. Ed then shifted his attention to stock car racing. Once again, he found success and some degree of fame when he built and crewed the first Ford in 20 years to win the Longhorn Speedway track championship in ’97. Ed supported his passion as a previous Mazda Master Technician and later as a service manager with the Beasley group. The local racers also know Ed as the man who can fabricate anything who also has the delicate hands required to build the finest motors, transmissions and rear ends.

Karl Zimmermann has had a passion for car racing since he was a toddler, but did not get into the sport until 2000 with the birth of Spec Miata. Inquisitive in many respects, he learned the fine art of motor building and car setup out of his desire to drive competitively. That will quickly took him to the front of the pack. In 2001, his first full season, he was the SCCA’s Southwest Division runner up. The year was capped off with a victory at the Spec Miata “runoffs” at Road Atlanta in November. He went on to take the 2002 Spec Miata Divisional championship. Karl took the fall of 2002 through 2003 off to formulate a business plan and convince Ed to join him in this effort.
